house of an artist

stroud green

The property is a ground floor garden flat set within a Victorian mid-terrace house in the up-and-coming Stroud Green conservation area in Finsbury Park.

The client brief was to convert their one-bedroom flat to have two-bedrooms while staying within a tight budget.

By adding a new side return extension to the rear additional living space has been created to form a new kitchen-dining area.

The extension features sliding folding glass doors which can open up fully to the garden patio and increase the sense of space within. A large rooflight also brings extra light into the north facing kitchen and the adjacent internal space, which became an open plan living area. The existing floorboards have been painted in a light colour to reflect the light.

With the re-arrangement of the flat the former reception room to the front has been transformed into the master bedroom.

The Owners, who are an artist/professional couple, were interested to bring in a lot of texture and character into their home by having an exposed brick wall in the kitchen, leaving some plastered walls in their original finish, combining them with Mexican tiles, introducing bright wall colours and integrating their own art work and a dedicated music space.
