Complete refurbishment of a three storey post-war house in the Hampstead Conservation Area, former house of local historian Christopher Wade.

We added a new rear extension replacing the former garage, and a zinc-clad roof extension forming the third floor.

Beautiful terrazzo floor tiles in the Hallway lead into the dramatic double height space of the kitchen with full height bookshelves emphasizing the volume of the room.

The bespoke kitchen with concrete worktop is tailored to the client’s needs.

Minimal framed sliding doors arranged around an open corner draws one into the lowered living space which features a trapezoid rooflight embedded within a sedum roof.

A small courtyard garden reads like an internal room when opening the sliding doors.

Wide Douglas Fir floorboards on all floors including the bespoke staircase give the house a bright but warm feel. A large rooflight above the stair washes the hallway in daylight.

The paired back bathrooms are minimal and timeless.

The rear of the extension facing the alleyway is articulated by the perforated brickwork alongside the horizontal timber slat fencing.

The calm understated architecture of the house forms a perfect backdrop to the personal belongings, artwork and plants of the owners, a fashion designer and her family.
